Real-Time Trust Management in Agent Based Online Auction Systems

چکیده
Agent based online auctions have not yet become popular because they are not trustable. One of the major concerns in agent based online auctions is the shilling behavior problem, which makes winners have to pay more than what they should pay for auctioned items. In this paper, we propose a real-time trust management module for agent based online auction systems using rolebased access control mechanisms. As one of the key components of the trust management module, a security agent can actively monitor online auctions in order to detect abnormal bidding behaviors in real-time. To illustrate the feasibility of our approach, we implemented a prototype real-time trust management module for agentbased online auction systems, and demonstrated how shill agents could be efficiently detected.

Combating Shill Bidding in Real Time: Prevention, Detection and Response
Human cheating has been a barrier to establishing trust among e-commerce users, throughout the last two decades. In particular, in online auctions, since all the transactions occur among anonymous users, trust is difficult to establish and maintain. Shill bidding happens when bidders bid exclusively to inflate (in forward auctions) or deflate (in reverse auctions) prices in online auctions. At ...

A multi-agent marketplace, MAGNET (Multi AGent Negotiation Testbed), is a promising solution for conducting online combinatorial auctions. The trust model of MAGNET is somewhat different from other on-line auction systems, since the marketplace, which mediates all communications between agents, acts as a partiallytrusted third party. In this paper, we identify the security vulnerabilities of MA...
متن کاملBuilding Effective Online Marketplaces with Institution-Based Trust
Despite the inherent risk arising from separating buyers and sellers, networked online marketplaces are proliferating. We describe how online auction marketplaces take advantage of institutional structures to build buyer trust in auction sellers, mitigate risk, increase satisfaction, and promote transaction intentions. It is hypothesized, based on institutional trust (Zucker 1986), that buyer t...
متن کاملMulti-agent Security Architecture for a Sharia Compliant E-auction
Electronic auction has introduced new processes in the way auction is conducted which require investigation to ensure compliancy to Sharia (Islamic principles that are based on Qur’an and Sunnah) rules. The use of mobile software agent in electronic auction marketplaces adds ubiquity power to the bidders. In particular it allows agents to quicker respond to local changes in auction marketplaces...
متن کاملThe Usage of Contextual Discounting and Opposition in Determining the Trustfulness of Users in Online Auctions
The communication within Internet auction systems proceeds as a rule under the situation in which users are not in physical contact nor they do not know anything of each other. They have therefore to rely on reputation mechanisms implemented within these online systems. Such mechanisms help to create a trustworthy environment on the basis of additional attributes associated with users and their...
